The Loveland Police Department Victim Services Unit exists to provide unbiased crisis intervention, need assessments, advocacy, and practical support to victims, witnesses, and their families after a crime or traumatic event.
We provide 24-hour crisis intervention, immediate support, and assistance to victims and our community.

Qualifications
- Open-minded and a non-judgmental attitude toward victims/witnesses.
- The ability to communicate clearly, think critically, and respond quickly.
- Genuine concern and empathy for victims of crime and witnesses, regardless of the circumstances.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Advocates must be at least 21 years old.
- Advocates interested in Scene Response must be able to be in city limits within 30 minutes.
Once selected, applicants must submit to an employment/character background investigation, fingerprinting, polygraph, psychiatric evaluation, and a drug test.
Three Volunteer Opportunities
- Victim Services Assistant: Spends a significant amount of time in case management, including data entry and creating reports for grants and administration.
- Victim Advocate – Outreach: Contacts victims by phone, mail, or email to offer information, advocacy, and referrals related to their case. Advocates will also attend bond hearings on behalf of, or with, the victim.
- Victim Advocate – Scene Response: Responds to the scene of the incident, the hospital, law enforcement agency or any other designated area. The advocate remains with the victim/witness during the immediate crisis and may refer him/her to appropriate agencies for additional resources.
Training and Equipment Provided
In-person and virtual Victim Advocate training involving crisis counseling, victimology, legal procedures, law enforcement and resource information is provided for this position. A department cell phone, polo, and jacket are also provided.
