This free training is available for any adult to help present field trip programs to local school groups. Canyon Ecosystem Exploration programs are offered to 4th and 5th grade students on field trips to Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park. Program topics include: Life Zones, Canyon Plants, Animal Adaptations, Decomposition, and Energy Through the Biosphere (sun>plants>animal food chains).

Volunteers receive an overview of the orientation, "food chain" game, and small group learning stations. Volunteers may train for the 3 shorter stations or the 2 longer ones; all have materials and activities provided. Training is free, no previous knowledge necessary. New volunteers are paired with experienced volunteers until ready to go solo.

See our Environmental Education and Volunteer Opportunities webpage for curriculum information.

An email will be sent to volunteers registered in Offero if weather adjustments are needed. The Loveland City Council Chambers are reserved as a backup location in case of rain. Bring a sack lunch and dress for cooler canyon temps. Training and school programs are held in indoor and outdoor settings at Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park.

Sign up on Offero. Other education program trainings will be offered on September 16 (Plants & Places - Grades 2-3) and September 17 (Critter Scene Investigation CSI - Grades K-1). See times, locations, and details on the Offero calendar.
